“The quake in Sichuan had so far killed more than 69,000 people. According to Mr Lu Guangjin, spokesman for the State Council, there was no tally on how many of the victims were schoolchildren. Another 17,991 remain missing and about 5 million people have been left homeless, forced to seek shelter in tent camps and hastily built prefabricated housing units. The government has said about 7,000 classrooms were destroyed, while angry parents and even rescuers have pointed to steel reinforcing rods in broken concrete slabs that were thinner than a ballpoint pen.” By CARA ANNA, Associated Press Writer 5th June 2008
Engineers were always being categorized as great professional. They constructed all things around the world in order to ease human life. However, if failure occurs, who should be pinned pointed at? The developer? The designer? The contractor? The workers? Who should bear?
I was shocked when I heart from the news that all the building around the schools were still standing straight but only schools were collapsing! What happened here?
Failures of construction causing death to such a great number of victims especially students. Shouldn’t there be any studies being carried out to curb the situation of the other buildings if such a disaster were to be occurred again?
Viewing at the statistic of the killed, injured and missing people, how many more still being buried? How much price others need to pay for it? How much the world suffered in the form of economics? How much? It was only questions without answer that were able to be posted.
Thousands of volunteers rush to Sichuan to lend a hand to victims of the quakes. Touching events were viewed from all the news especially where there were lives! There were still loving and caring ones on earth! All the medical team, the voluntary also the soldiers working not counting the amount they could earn but how many lives they could save. Praises to all the people involved not for fame but a true heart to help.
